Asante Monarch billed for Pillar of Peace Award

Preparations are in top gear at the Manhyia Palace, where the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will be bestowed with the prestigious award of ‘Pillar of Peace’ during the upcoming African Premier Leadership Awards.

His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has been chosen for the Pillar of Peace Award in recognition of his crucial role in the restoration of peace to Dagbon and his contribution to national development through diplomacy.

The Award ceremony will mark the culmination of activities marking the 20th anniversary celebration of Otumfuo’s coronation as the 16th Asante king. Moreover, it will crown the last Akwasidae festival of the year.

The African Premier Leadership Awards which will be hosted by Year of Return in partnership Manhyia Palace under the theme: “Acknowledging and Celebrating Legendary and Transformational Leadership on the African Continent and Beyond, is slated for November 29, 2019.

The Awards seek to celebrate traditional rulers who have a passion for peace and stability. It also recognizes leaders with innovative ideas, as well as leaders who have championed world peace and stability.

It is widely acknowledged that the average Asanteman has experienced total peace during the 20-year reign of the Asantehene, as virtually all chieftaincy disputes had been resolved through Otumfuo’s intervention.

Aside from that, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is widely known as a ‘development-oriented’ leader both in Ghana and abroad, has so far lived up to expectations.

For instance, his reign has brought about massive infrastructural development, peace, total growth and fame to the Asante Kingdom, which is famous globally.

In addition, the monarch has equally made tremendous contribution in the field of education. Currently, more than 20,000 needy students in Ghana, drawn from various tribes and regions, have benefited from the Otumfuo Education Fund which he established to give a good number of Ghanaian youth the opportunity to climb high the educational ladder.

Otumfuo has also created a mobile library van project, which travels to areas without libraries to promote reading among pupils.

Prior to this award, his sterling leadership style had been duly recognized across the globe as he has been the recipient of several top awards from states and universities all over the world.
