As preparations for the 2019 Future Awards Africa gathers momentum, Mitsubishi Nigeria, a heritage car brand has hosted a grand reception for this year’s nominees.

The event which was held in Lagos was attended by an array of inspiring personalities and celebrities such as Banky W, Sola Sobowale, Timini Egbuson, Mimi Onalaja and Adebayo Williams, Kiki Mordi, Tunji Andrews and Khaffy of Big Brother Naija (BBN).

The reception is a pre-event of the award show where nominees are presented with certificates of nomination, and an opportunity to network with their peers across several industries.

The Future Awards Africa has been called the ‘Nobel Prize for Young Africans’, and the ‘most important youth awards’ by Forbes. It is a set of prizes given annually to celebrate and accelerate innovation, creativity and enterprise amongst young Africans. It has produced over 150 winners and over 1550 nominees since its first edition in 2006.

With 105 nominees selected across 21 categories, the 14th edition of the awards celebrates young Nigerians between the ages of 18 – 31 who have made a difference in the year under review through innovation, social good, social enterprise, arts and culture, media, fashion, agriculture, among other sectors.

In his keynote address at the occasion, Thomas Pelletier, Country Delegate and Managing Director, Mitsubishi Nigeria, spoke on the brand’s mission to promote youth investment, including young creators and entrepreneurs, a goal which according to him, is clearly captured by its support for The Future Awards Africa 2019.

The partnership builds on Mitsubishi Motors Nigeria’s vision on youth investment and its ‘Drive Your Ambition’ tagline which is focused on empowering young Nigerians.

Also speaking at the event, Funmi Abiola, Head of Marketing, Massilia Motors Limited, the sole distributors of Mitsubishi Motors in Nigeria said, Nigerian youths have consistently proven themselves to be enterprising, innovative, creative and resilient, and they truly deserve to be celebrated through a sustainable and important platform like The Future Awards Africa.

“Our continent is at a critical point, and our work in supporting the youths will determine how excellent Africa will perform independently in the global market”, she said.

In his remarks, Bukonla Adebakin, Chief Operating Officer of The Future Project, noted that Mitsubishi Motors Nigeria has consistently been recognized as one of the world’s renowned, forward-looking automobile brands, adding that they are so excited about this partnership.

“It is a perfect mix, because we understand the brand’s effort to inspire Africa’s youth and boost creativity and enterprise, which also aligns with our vision,” said Bukonla Adebakin, Chief Operating Officer of The Future Project”, Adebakin further explained.

The certificates of nomination were presented to the nominees by the Chairman, CFAO Nigeria Plc., Gbenga Oyebode. This year’s Future Awards Africa is scheduled to hold on 24 November also in Lagos.
