BUHARI RELEASES N10B GRANT TO LAGOS STATE -Oluwayomi Ayilara

COVID 19: President Muhammad Buhari releases 10 billion naira grant to Lagos State.


The residents of Lagos state have been panicky for days as Lagos state was the first to record a confirmed corona virus case in Nigeria.

Since the index case, many more infected persons have been recorded and there has been increments in numberΒ  of cases on a daily basis.


The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the first Governor in Nigeria to provide in the aspect of welfare for the residents of the state.

H.E Sanwo-Olu have actively announced through his twitter page on a regular basis; the developments and basic steps taken to curb the spread of the virus across Lagos State.


President Buhari has been been quiet for a while causing confusion and anger for the citizens of Nigeria. However, on the 26th of March 2020, ThePresident took to his Twitter page to address the pandemic, covid-19.

He stated as follows;

Over the last few days I have received extensive briefings on the state of the nation as it relates to the Covid-19 pandemic, from the relevant Federal Government agencies as well as the Lagos State Government”.

Subsequently, Mr President took to his twitter account to announce other plans intended to combat the virus by the presidency. He reinforced that,

β€œThe Nigerian Air Force is already making its fleet available to the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19, to enable a better coordinated and more effective response across the country.

We have also suspended the movement of commuter trains to limit the spread of the virus to other parts of the country.

As you are aware we have begun the process of reviewing the federal budget. We shall communicate our fiscal interventions once the budget review process is concluded.

In the meantime, I have directed the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, to work with the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), to ensure that all production of essential items such as food, medical and pharmaceutical products continues unhindered.

I want to assure all Nigerians, that the Federal Government remains committed to protecting all Nigerians. We seek your full support and cooperation as we go through this very difficult time.

Together we will triumph over this pandemic.” he stated.


The president also announced that there would be a release of 10 billion naira grant to Lagos State;

β€œThe immediate release of a 10 billion Naira grant to Lagos State, which remains the epicenter of the Covid-19 outbreak in Nigeria. This grant will enable Lagos increase its capacity to control and contain the outbreak, while also supporting other States with capacity-building.”


The Lagos State Governor received this with open arms and responded by appreciating the presidency for the contribution.

Sanwo-Olu in his response via his Twitter account said,

β€œThank you, Your Excellency, President @MBuhari for understanding the critical role Lagos plays. With the approved grant to Lagos state and other measures initiated, we believe we can increase our capacity and contain the spread of #COVID19.”
