COVID-19 TRAGEDY – ADEDEJI F.T esq
A middle aged woman with four kids attempted to commit suicide by jumping into the recently dredged Osun river at the Gbodofon axis just before the popular Aregbesola bus stop in Osogbo the state capital midday Wednesday.
This happened on the first day of the government’s ordered state at home pronouncement to combat COVID-19 pandemic. According to an eyewitness who pledged anonymity, the woman plunged into the river with her youngest child strapped to her back ostensibly to take her life. It took concerted efforts of passersby a nonprofessional diver to drag her out of the deep flowing river.
Lamenting the reason for the attempted suicide, she complained that she had nothing to fend for the kids since she couldn’t go out to work. According to her, the youngest of the kids was indisposed and she couldn’t raise money for her hospital’s bill, to worsen the matter no help from any quarters.
Wearing a truly dejected disposition, the obviously devastated woman moaned that it’s better to die than to live a life of abject penury and despondency.
She has since been taken to the force headquarters in Osogbo.
