The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission stated its readiness to commence a fresh trial of former Governor Orji Kalu immediately.
The EFCC said this in a statement by its Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, on Friday, while reacting to the order by the Supreme Court.
Where the court of last resort upturned Kalu’s conviction and also ordered a fresh trial on the grounds that, the trial judge, Justice Mohammed Idris, was not competent to hear Kanu’s case since he had been elevated to the Court of Appeal.
The corruption and pilferring charges against Kalu still subsist due to the fact that the Supreme Court did not acquit him of the crimes.
“The entire prosecutorial machinery of the EFCC would be launched in a fresh trial where justice is bound to be served in due course.” Oyawale added.
