The Independent Review Panel has exonerated the President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, of any unethical doings. The Independent Review Panel was set up by the Bureau of Governors of the Bank, following a complaint by the United States, to review the process by which two previous organs of the Bank – the Ethics Committee of the Board, and the Bureau of the Board of Governors – had previously exonerated Adesina. African Development Bank has been ranked fourth out of 47 global development institutions on its Aid Transparency Index by Publish What You Fund. The Index is the only independent measure of aid transparency among the world’s major development agencies. The board of the African Development Bank (AfDB) has agreed for an independent investigation of Akinwumi Adesina, the Nigerian Bank President. This is happening shortly after Steven Mnuchin, US treasury secretary, rejected the investigation and report of the bank’s ethics board which absolved Adesina of allegations with respect to favouritism.
