Okeigbo community, an ancient town where the senior lecturer of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife, Osun State, Professor Jerome Elusiyan, who was ‘assassinated’ last week Friday has gone traditional to avenge his death.
A source from the ancient town who pleaded anonymity said his death wasn’t ordinary, that the people of the community believed that he was assassinated.
He said, “Prof. would have been promoted in the next three months as the substantial Chief Medical Director of OAU Teaching Hospital. He was assassinated! How do you describe his death? He wasn’t robbed. His car wasn’t taken. He was the target. They didn’t attack the driver because he was the one that drove his dead body to the hospital.”
“Professor Elusiyan was killed and that is why we don’t want to wait for police investigation or wait on human to fight for us. We want to go to our root so as to show his assailants and those who sent them that they can’t kill him and get away with it.” Before the advent of the foreign God, we do our businesses and live our cultural life without the fear of thieves or hired assassins. Then, everyone averted evil as they know the consequences.
Families, parents even go further to protect the children and wards from mishap of this nature, using Africa traditional medicines and belief but unfortunately, civilisation and borrowed religions has eroded us of the value and the protection that is derivable from our own belief.
It’s a shame!!!
But in this case, we as a people have decided to go back to our root” he exclaimed.
“We have employed Ogun (god of thunder), Sanpona (god of measles), Obatala (sky father and the creator of human bodies) and other Orishas to fight our course. The whole community has agreed on this, irrespective of religious beliefs and differences.
Prof. Elusiyan is a true son of the soil. He has helped the community a lot in one way or another putting smile on people’s faces.
We are going to be doing this for the next 7 days before he will be laid to rest. We have brought out all our ancient god as inherited from our forefathers. So, let us see where they are going to hide.”
The deceased was the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, (OAUTH), Ile-Ife.
According to reports, he was killed while travelling between Ekpoma and Benin, city Edo State in company of his driver. His remains will be interred in his home town, Okeigbo, in Ondo State on Friday December 27, 2019.

BRIEF CITATION OF PROFESSOR JEROME BOLUWAJI ELUTAYO ELUSIYAN
Professor Jerome Boluwaji Elutayo Elusiyan joined the services of the Obafemi Awolowo University on October 4, 2005. He graduated from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife with the M.B.Ch.B degree in 1995.
He started his Residency Training at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex in 1998 just three months after the National Youth Service and finished with the Fellowship of the West African College of Physicians (FWACP) in 2004. His sub-specialisation in the field of Paediatric Endocrinology took him to Kenya, United State of America and Poland. He rose through the ranks and was Promoted Professor of Paediatrics in September 2018 but with effect from 1st October 2016.
Professor Elusiyan, is a member of several Academic and Professional organisations. He is a reviewer to several local and international Journals and he is an examiner to several Medical Schools including Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Bowen University, Iwo, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. He is also a Resource person and Examiner to the West African College of Physician.
Jerome, has served in various capacities in the Department, Faculty, College and University among which are Part V M.B.Ch.B. Coordinator, Hall fellow to the Glory Land Hostel and Acting Head of Department of Paediatrics and Child Health. He served as National Secretary of the Paediatric Association of Nigeria (PAN) between January 2013 and January 2016. He is a member of the Chapel of Grace, OAUTHC and the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International. He is currently the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex.
He teaches Nursing students, Medical Students and Residents Doctors and his lectures are well received by them. He is happily married and blessed with children.
