NOVEL CORONA VIRUS: Nigeria Confirms Third Case of Covid-19

 

AFRICANS, and by extension Nigerians are not immuned to Covid-19 – TellAfrica

 

A third case of the novel corona virus has now been confirmed inΒ Nigeria by the Lagos State. ThisΒ  information was disclosed by the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Mr. Akin Abayomi in a press briefing at the government secretariat today 17th of March 2020.

The Honourable Commissioner stated as thus:

β€œThis is a new case independent of the index case of a 30 year-old Nigerian, female, who returned from the UK on 13th March.”

The patient having shown symptoms of the infection was self-Isolated, while tested; status was confirmed positive.

This information should serve as a warning to Nigerians who wrongly opine that Africans are immune to this dreadful virus.

Two other cases of death from Corona virus of two doctors of Nigeria descent in Italy and UK respectively was also reported in the course of the week.

Despite the global pandemic, Nigeria has only recorded three cases of the virus. The first being an Italian on business visit to Nigeria. While the second case which was linked to the index case, later tested negative.

Africans should be encouraged to maintain high level hygiene and follow guided rules set to fight the disease.
