Former O.A.U Acting VC & 1 other Discharged And Acquitted Of Fraud

An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo in the matter of former Acting Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Prof. Anthony Elujoba aka “Village Chemist” and ex-Acting Bursar Mrs. Josephine Akeredolu of abuse of office and alleged corruption held that both accused are discharged and acquitted.

Our correspondent S’Teller gathered that the duo were arraigned in 2017 at an Ede High Court in Osun State on seven counts of conspiracy, stealing, paying of earned and productivity allowance of N1.4 billion to the workers of the university without authority’s approval, illegal payment of furniture allowance, abuse of office and conversion of money belonging to the university.

Prosecutor Mr. M. S. Usman called three witnesses and tendered exhibits to prove his case, while counsel to the first defendant, Mr. Abiodun Olabanpe and Mr. Segun Akeredolu, who represented the second defendant, entered a no-case submission.

Delivering the judgment yesterday, Justice Wasiu Akanbi said the prosecution failed to prove the case of illegal payment of furniture allowance beyond reasonable doubt.

They were charged with fraud and conspiracy by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
