The Oxford vaccine had seemingly passed the first phase of its trial.

A pharmaceutical giant agreed to mass-produce the Oxford University’s groundbreaking coronavirus vaccine. Drug conglomerate AstraZeneca signed a non-profit deal to “scale” the revolutionary jab after it sailed through the first round of testing on monkeys and humans.
The British Health Secretary Matt Hancock said;
“Hugely welcome news that AstraZeneca has signed an agreement with Oxford University to take its promising coronavirus vaccine to scale.
“The Oxford vaccine is one of the most advanced in the world. Bringing together the best British science and the best of British business will give us the best possible shot at a vaccine.
“The science is uncertain, and no vaccine may work, but this deal gives the UK the best chance we can of a breakthrough that could defeat this awful virus. I’m sending best wishes for good fortune to all involved – for the sake of the nation and indeed the whole world.
Professor Sir John Bell, Regius Professor of Medicine at Oxford University said the partnership was a “major force in the struggle against pandemics.”
He added that;
“We also want to make sure that the rest of the world will be ready to make this vaccine at scale so that it gets to populations in developing countries, for example, where the need is very great.
“We really need a partner to do that and that partner has a big job in the UK because our manufacturing capacity in the UK for vaccines isn’t where it needs to be, and so we are going to work together with AstraZeneca to improve that considerably.”
The trial’s success implies the jab can move to the next stage of testing later this month.
Over 6,000 participants will be injected to prove the vaccine is safe and effective in humans.
If the second phase of the trial is also successful, it will be given emergency approval by regulators and lead to “millions” of doses being produced by September.
Monkeys injected with the Oxford vaccine stayed uninfected despite exposure to huge doses of the virus while the unvaccinated ones were struck down by Covid-19.
As many as 100 potential COVID-19 candidate vaccines are now under development by biotech and research teams around the world, and at least five of these are in preliminary testing in people in what are known as Phase 1 clinical trials.
